"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or gazelle - when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, "Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?"
- Peter Maher

For me usually once I let the inner debate about whether or not I am going to workout start 9 times out of 10 I've already lost and working out gets put on the back burner. I have found that having a plan and executing with little or no thought about is what works. It's never a fight once I'm working out no matter if it's a good or not so good run at least I can say "hey I ran" the conflict always comes from the procrastination before hand.

Week 1 Training (3/14-3/20)
Mon.: Stretch & Strengthen
Tues: 3 m run (ran 3.1)
Weds: 2 m or cross train
Thurs. 3 m + strength (ran 4.2)
Fri.: Rest (ran 2)
Sat: 30 min cross
Sun: 4 m

So the first week was kind of rocky I wasn't mentally prepared for working out 6 days so I got all the runs in but this week need to work on the cross training.

Week 2 Training (3/21-3/27)
Monday: Stength & Training
Tuesday: 3 m
Wednesday: 2 m or cross
Thursday: 3 m + strength
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 30 min cross
Sunday: 4 m

Three Things Thursday- St. Patricks Day Edition

I think it was Monday when my oldest daughter said to me "Mom you know are last name is sounds Irish?" So as I was about to shake my head and say "ummm no honey it doesn't" I thought about and instead said "what the heck I'll allow it". And so to celebrate our probably very unlikely Irish heritage today I...

1.)...ran 4 miles on the treadmill and put on my green recovery socks..
2)...opted for Irish Creme Creamer in my coffee this morning, and since it is a holiday may include some Bailey's Irish Cream in my evening coffee ;)

3)...tried my hand at corned beef and cabbage for the first time (or what the recipe referred to as an Americanized version) and yes I am a fan...but of the horseradish sauce not so much.
I figured since I was celebrating I would read up a little about the holiday that growing up I associated with Irish pride, wearing green, pinching the crap outta my friends (sometimes even if they were wearing green the key there is only pinching people your faster than) and when I got older drinking beer and here's what I found.

-The real St. Patrick wasn't even Irish. He was born in Britain around A.D. 390 to an aristocratic Christian family

-St. Patrick was the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland who is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland

-Americans have embraced their own St. Patrick's Day tradition of drinking large amounts of Irish beer or green beer, which has no real historical Irish references at all. (of course we did, lol)

-Corned beef and cabbage is the traditional meal enjoyed by many on St. Patrick's Day, but only half of it is truly Irish. Cabbage has long been a staple of the Irish diet, but it was traditionally served with Irish bacon, not corned beef.

-• According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 34 million United States residents claim Irish ancestry, or nearly ten times the entire population of Ireland today, which stands at 3.9 million. Among U.S. ethnic groups, the number of Irish-Americans in the U.S. is second only to the number of German-Americans. (so why not me??)

I used this site and this site to get my info

"I run so my goals in life will continue to get bigger instead of my belly."
- Bill Kirby

Why do you run?

So it begins week #1 of the 12 week Hal Higdon 1/2 Marathon Training Program. (Disclaimer I more than likely will be modifying the plan to fit my schedule since the plan on calls for 1 rest day a week but I will be making all attempts to follow it as closely as possible.)

Mon.: Stretch & Strengthen
Tues: 3 m run
Weds: 2 m or cross train
Thurs. 3 m + strength
Fri.: Rest
Sat: 30 min cross
Sun: 4 m

My Iphone App of the Week:

I am not a fan of the news in fact I make it a point to avoid watching it, I like to get the my news highlights from sources like Bill Maher and TMZ so I walk around with just enough knowledge that if someone were to ask "did you hear about..." I would not totally be in the dark, but after asking my husband last night "What does Charlie Sheen have to do with "winning" ? " and receiving that are you serious? stare it occured to me that as a responsible adult it was my responsibility to know that Charlie Sheen is "bi-winning" and 31 flavors of crazy so I got myself a nifty ABC news app which allows me to get local and top news, videos & show highlights.

It's Friday Randomness is Allowed

I have a whole lot of and random stuff I wanted to post about so I figured I would make this a bullet point post so here goes.

  • I have gotten in 10 miles so far this week, and I am hoping to get in at least 16 by Sunday night which may not seem like a lot but it will be the most miles i logged in a week in 2011.
  • On Monday I plan on starting my half marathon training plan it is an eight week plan and the half is approx. 11 weeks out so I am thinking I will just do the first 2 weeks twice just to get back into the groove of having a schedule.
  • I have also started putting together my new training/half marathon playlist so I could use your suggestions, let me know what your working out to? I listen to all kinds of music so all recommendations are appreciated I only have 6 songs so far and would like to have at least 20.
  1. Come Around -M.I.A
  2. F.U.- Cee-lo Green
  3. The Show Goes On - Lupe Fiasco
  4. Bow Chicka Wow Wow- Mike Posner
  5. Roman's Revenge- Nicki Minaj
  6. I Got You- Train
  • Now I just have some super random questions this is what happens when i run so i must transfer my wondering on to you.
  1. Are you running the RnR Las Vegas? I really wanted to run it for my birthday which happens to fall on the same day as the race but I am not sure how I feel about a Sunday evening run.
  2. This has nothing to do with running but I am a fan of kitchen appliances but I have also had my share of appliances that end up in the cabinet or garage never to be heard from again because they barely got used such as our waffle iron and juicer. So i am wondering what appliances do you use most/couldn't live without? For me, 1st of course my Keurig which gets used daily sometimes multiple times and I unexpectedly received a Foreman Grill for Christmas that I never realized I needed so much.
